3. Study Hall Cover
For the next 6-8 weeks, Esperanza Academy needs 2 or more people to cover 6th and 7th graders during their study hall on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30-4:15. The volunteer is welcome to be as engaged as she/he wants. It could entail just being present and 'covering' the class, or you can engage and help with homework related questions the girls might have. There is no teaching involved, per se.

Please let Lucy Abisalih know if and when you would be available to help: LConriver@gmail.com

4.Secondary School Process For 8th Graders
This is a new opportunity to help Esperanza work with their first group of students heading to private secondary schools (a process many of us have gone through personally with our own children).  During the early Fall months, GWTK volunteers will serve as drivers, taking the girls and their families to Open Houses and interviews.  During the later Fall months (November and December), Stephanie Owen will need help with the application process.  She works with the girls on Friday mornings in 2 separate groups and could potentially use GWTK volunteers during that time.  She also envisions having GWTK members come in for an hour or so on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons (3:00 – 5:00 pm) to advise a small group of girls on their draft applications.  It’s a great opportunity for all of those writers and marketing experts in our membership!!  If this opportunity interests you, please contact Leislie Godo-Solo lgodosolo@andover.edu or Denise Bordonaro denisebordonaro@comcast.net.

3. Shadow Day with Esperanza, February, 2011
We are looking for as many volunteers as possible to participate inour signature event! (See photos from Shadow Day 2008.) We have several ways to participate to suit everyschedule and work situation:

In-School Speakers:30 Minutes Sessions from 9AM - 12 Noon, All Grades, 5-8
Speakto the Esperanza students about what you do, or used to do,professionally. This is a casual, fun opportunity to engage the girlswith hands-on activities and/or visuals to teach them about your typeof work. The sessions will run 30 minutes each, between 9 AM and 12noon, and are grouped by grade. You may speak for one session or more, depending on your schedule.

Take a Girl(s) to Work: Half Day (After Lunch) or Full Day, 7th and 8th Graders Only
Exposea student to what life is like in your workplace, and get their dreamsgoing! You can take one or more students, for a half or full day, depending on your particular work/commute situation. You can organizeactivities for them that give them an inside look at your profession,or give them some easy tasks to help you and keep them busy. Remember, most of the students have not had the opportunity to visit a workplacebefore, so what may seem routine to you, may be exciting to them!

Drivers: All Day

We will need a few drivers to help transport students from Esperanza tomembers' workplaces, if they are not able to leave work and pick thegirls up. Members who can provide this small service will help more ofour members participate.

IMPORTANT: Please note that allvolunteers driving girls and/or hosting them at work will need to fillout CORI forms as required by law. Sue Wilson will contact thosevolunteers directly with more information.
